For Immediate Release
Tennessee Association of Independent Schools biennial conference scheduled for Nov. 9-10
NASHVILLE, TN -- The Tennessee Association of Independent Schools will hold its Biennial Conference on Nov. 9-10.
The largest gathering of independent school educators in the state, this event showcases practical teaching strategies and innovative programs in workshops presented by independent school teachers and administrators from schools throughout Tennessee.
The program will include 174 sessions and over 240 presenters, and will cover topics appropriate for every grade level and subject from Kindergarten to 12th Grade.
Sunday sessions will be held at Franklin Road Academy, where the keynote speaker will be well-known educator Rich Grimes, author of Classroom Under Construction. Monday sessions will be held at Father Ryan High School, and will feature the nationally acclaimed writer and speaker Richard Louv. Author of Last Child in the Woods and founder of The Children's Nature Network, an organization that works to reconnect children with nature, Louv received the prestigious Audubon Medal this year. In awarding the medal the National Audubon Society made special note of his leadership of a nationwide grassroots movement to help children overcome the serious mental and physical health problems that result from what he calls "Nature-Deficit Disorder." Both speakers will conduct a workshop after giving their keynote address.
In addition to outstanding professional development opportunities, this conference serves as a venue for networking with experienced teachers and peers from throughout the state. Monday sessions will include an Exhibit Hall, which will house representatives from 46 education-oriented businesses and services that provide everything from textbooks to technology, and from school uniforms to science equipment and lab supplies.
The conference is open not only to teachers and administrators of TAIS member schools, but to those from non-member schools as well, including public schools.
Registration continues at www.taistn.org through Oct. 30. Call the TAIS office at 615-321-2800 for further information.
In conjunction with its Biennial Conference, TAIS has partnered with Metro Parks to arrange for Louv to speak about his work again Monday evening. This program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hume-Fogg High School.
